Asafoetida Gum

Gourmet cooks know Asafoetida gum as the very pungent culinary spice with a unique taste stronger than onion or garlic. It is a popular seasoning in South Indian vegetarian dishes, and is used primarily to enhance vegetable &bean recipes.

Like most spices, in small doses Asafoetida serves as a digestive aid, relieves gas and supports intestinal health. Asafoetida is the gum resin obtained from the dried roots of the Ferula assa-foetida plant. Interestingly, Asafoetida was one of the remedies listed in the Tang Herbal, considered one of the first official Chinese pharmacopoeias (compiled around the 7th century). It is applied in that culture for promoting intestinal cleansing.

Common use: Culinary spice for vegetable &bean dishes; promotes digestion; supports respiratory health. NOT TO BE USED DURING PREGNANCY.
