Balm of Gilead

A balm is defined as a fragrant oil or ointment that soothes or comforts. Such is definitely the case of the aromatic Balm of Gilead buds. They’re traditionally made into a soothing salve or herbal oil for minor skin irritations and joint discomfort.

The buds of the American Poplar tree have been providing soothing comfort for centuries. From the Native American tribes down to the kitchen herbalist in the Appalachian Mountains, people have used the old-fashioned salve and oil for skin & joint health.
Make your own homemade skincare ointment; one classic recipe recommends adding the buds to olive oil and beeswax. DID YOU KNOW: Balm of Gilead buds contain salicin, the same compound in White Willow bark?
COMMON NAMES: American Balm of Gilead, Balsam Poplar, Poplar Buds. Populus candicans is used interchangeably with Populus gemma, Populus balsamifer, Populus tacamahaca, and other Populus species.
