Coumarouna
Tonka or Coumarouna Beans are the seeds of a tree which grows in the Caribbean region and in South America. The aromatic seeds with their vanilla-like fragrance are now mainly used in potpourris.
In her book, An Album Of Fragrance, author Edith Bailes noted that Tonka Beans can be used in place of vanilla beans, but their fragrance is not as delicate. She also highlighted that they can also be used as a moth repellant, by scattering the whole
seeds in dresser drawers and storage chests. COMMON NAMES: Coumarouna Beans, Tonka Beans, Tonquin Beans.
