Lemon Verbena

Lemon Verbena is native to South America, but now cultivated in other warmer, tropical countries. Its fragrant leaves have traditionally been used much like the herbs Mint and Balm- to strengthen the stomach and to relieve digestive complaints.

Used in various culinary and medicinal preparations, Lemon Verbena is most often enjoyed as a soothing tea to relieve indigestion, intestinal gas, nausea and stomachache. The herb is also considered to soothing sedative, a mild antispasmodic, and a hot
tea is said to lower fevers. In Morocco, one of the countries where it is now cultivated, Lemon Verbena is reportedly used for chills and constipation. In other applications, a compress may be beneficial for puffy eyes, and a gargle for sore throats and
tonsillitis. Due to its lemon-scented fragrance, Verbena is a popular addition to citrus or spicy potpourris. COMMON NAMES: Herb Louisa, Verbena Herb (Lemon), Verveine Leaves, Scented (Not the same as Vervain or Verbena officinalis).
